This archetype package for the wizard alters or replaces the following class features: arcane bond, arcane school, and 10th-level wizard bonus feat.

The Paizo scrollmaster sucks. It keeps the wizard's abilities at full power and adds on a weak and unviable melee combat option. I realize that it had to be weak in order to keep the wizard from getting out of hand, but here I try to do one better—a weakened wizard whose scrollblades actually function.

Diminished Casting: The scrollmaster casts one fewer spell of each level per day. If this reduces the number of spells at a certain level to 0, he may cast spells of that level only if he receives bonus spells of that level from having a high ability score or from his arcane school.

Arcane Bond (Ex or Sp or Su): In addition to the normal arcane bond options, a scrollmaster has the choice to bond with the fluid nature of his paper weapons. If he does so, he receives an arcane pool with a number of points in it equal to 1/3 his wizard level (minimum 1) plus his Intelligence modifier. He can use it to enhance a held melee weapon, as a magus can. Levels in multiple classes with this ability stack to determine the size of the scrollmaster's arcane pool. He adds Extra Arcane Pool to the list of wizard bonus feats. If a scrollmaster attempts to cast a spell when his arcane pool is empty, he must make a concentration check (DC 20 + the spell's level) or lose the spell.

Paper School: Scrollmasters all select the paper school, a new wood elemental subschool, as their arcane school. This is the source of their scrollblade ability. This otherwise functions as and replaces the wizard's arcane school ability.

Scroll Draw (Ex): At 1st level, a scrollmaster can draw a scroll or piece of paper or parchment from a suitable harness as if it were a weapon (a move action if still, a free action if moving or using Quick Draw).

Combat Feats: At 2nd level, and every five levels thereafter, a scrollmaster gains a bonus combat feat. He must meet the prerequisites for these feats.

Improved Scroll Casting (Su): At 10th level, the scrollmaster can cast a wizard spell from a scroll and use his own Intelligence score and relevant feats to set the DC for the spell, and can use his own caster level if it is higher than that of the scroll (similar to a caster using a staff). The scrollmaster must have already deciphered the writing on the scroll to use this ability. This ability replaces the 10th-level wizard bonus feat.
